Topic: Whisky in a flask...... Posted: 06.04.2005 at 03:39 |
Hey all. My first post and I have an interesting question. I will be making a trip in about two weeks and I am wondering about any thoughts on what is a good whisky to have in a flask? With the sight and nose out of the question it really comes down to mouth feel, taste and finish. I have around 250 malts in my collection right now, so I am open to any option. I am leaning to the Islay's, Ardbeg, Laphroaig. Discuss...... Michael |

Well, if you insist on Scotch, then I think you're right -- the island malts are the way to go.
Personally, I'd try a straight rye (not bourbon): Rittenhouse, Wild Turkey, Van Winkle (if you can find it), Classic Cask -- and enough flavor to bounce off any meddling the metal does. |

Hey Tim. Thanks for the additional notes. I didn't catch your notes until after my trip. I did have a Van Winkle I could have used too. I went with two Islay's. Lagavulin 16y - great mouth feel (oily) and had some of the ocean notes in the finish Bowmore 17y - Not my favorite Bowmore, but the Peat came on strong in the mouth and woke up my throat for a long finish. It was an interesting experience, being that I am so use to using a nosing glass for just about all of my malt drinking. My flask got a lot of use. I took it everywhere and filled it many times. Cheers, Michael |
